DYSTOPIAN FICTION AT CASTLE VIEW PARK

The Castle View Caravan Park is where you’ll find all things dystopian lurk.  Ignore the barbed wire and enjoy a good read of a story (or six). You’ll have to bring your own coffee, mind (the café only opens in the ‘on season’), and a torch if you’re staying past lights out.

Many who come to the Park find themselves inspired by the tall pines, the row upon row of our mobile homes - each one a home away from home – and the rumbling of the tannoy across the tennis courts. Should you find yourself similarly grasped by the muse of fiction, we suggest you consult the Contributions page to find out more.

This delightfully situated holiday park had its origins in the glory days of World War II, when guests of His Majesty were privileged enough to enjoy the bracing sea air and sweeping views of Bickering on Sea. Sited on the eastern edge of Bickering on Sea, between the haunting beauty of Bickering Castle and the picturesque rural outbuildings of Bickren Farm, the caravan park is often referred to by locals as, “world’s end”. Many a local has sworn never to go beyond the bounds of the Park – though that may be down to the alpacas in the next field.

A regular haunt for the teenage population of Bickering on Sea in the off season (which stretches year on year to occupy more time than the ‘on’ season), the Park boasts:

  • a swimming pool (heated for the six weeks Matt the groundskeeper has the parts);

  • tennis courts (book a timeslot at the gatehouse and we’ll give you the net):

  • entertainment hut with outdoor bar and dance floor (board games available on request);

  • and a little shop by the gatehouse (don’t mind Mrs Hilliers, she’s been grumpy since 1944).

Take note all who enter here, the last bus leaves at 6pm and then you’re on your own.

Please mind the zombies – er, sorry, I meant the alpacas: they have been known to bite.
